Welcome to the 2024 Principles of Community Week! UC Davis campuses in Davis and Sacramento come together each year to celebrate the Principles of Community — our shared aspirations to value our individual differences and common ground, as we work to create an inclusive and intellectually vibrant community.
Let’s remember our Principles of Community, which starts with this simple yet powerful sentence: We affirm the dignity that is inherent in each of us.
This is who we are.” —Chancellor Gary S. May
During this celebratory week, there are a series of events and activities that celebrate and center around the Principles of Community. These celebrations reaffirm our commitment to the highest standards of civility and decency towards all. Events are both in-person on both campuses and virtual.
Ideas for creating a "Principles of Community" moment for your friends and colleagues
- Here are some ways to engage with the Principles of Community during the week:
• Bring coffee, snacks, and copies of the Principles of Community to a team meeting.
• While sharing food in community, do a “Principles of Community” break where you ask folks to share some way they incorporate the Principles into their daily practice.
• Host a potluck where colleagues or friends bring dishes that represent traditions or culture that are important to them.
• Take a sentence from the Principles of Community and ask folks to comment on what it means to them.
• Play the newest Principles of Community video at a meeting (remote or in person).
• Create your own Principles of Community Week "watch party" by attending a virtual event with friends or colleagues.

- For the images Principles of Community Week 2024, we are delighted to feature the work of Dr. Jann Murray-García and our collaboration with Global Affairs.
Jann Murray-García's career embodies the Principles in multiple ways. We celebrate her work on the Anti-Racism and Cultural Humility (ARC) Fellowship and Academy at UC Davis Health, and the UC Davis Interprofessional Road Trip, where participants take a bus trip in the Central Valley. Dr. Murray-García is featured on our marketing tiles.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is grateful for our long-standing collaboration with Global Affairs, and we celebrate their leadership on engaging the campus with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. On our banner, Germaine Kennix of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion stands with Adrianne Bataska, Sadie Brown, and Ryan Leung of Global Affairs (Ryan Leung is also an undergraduate student studying International Relations). - Media Kit
